Honey Bee
Honey Bee, Apis mellifera
Because there are
many variations and strains within the species identification can be difficult.
The basic form is a dark brown head, thorax and abdomen with well-developed
hairs at the intersegmental junctions of the abdomen thorax and legs.
Wings have strong veins but the apical tip is generally without. Workers are
12-15 mm long, queens 16-20mm long and males (drones) 14-188mm long.
Bees may exploit houses to build nests. Individuals can sting humans. Some humans are hypersensitive to the sting and require medical attention. Wherever possible bees should not be killed as they are an important pollinator.
Advanced Rodent Control.
